    Posted: 25 Feb 2012 at 4:43pm

As most of you will know I've had my QQ Tekna for 3 weeks now and covered just over a 1000 miles.
Whilst still tight it is still  " torquie but nice ". The engine has good pull from third upwards and can still pull in sixth even when slower than that gear should be.
I's comparable with the 2 litre Insignia I had previously , although slower of the mark it does pull once up through the gears.
I do fairly high miles ( approx 500 per week) and most of my driving is short , stop/start journeys of 3-8 miles several times a day but I have a good motorway run of 20 miles going to  and returning from work.
At present the mpg gauge is showing 54.2 mpg so probably nearer the 50mpg mark.
I will be going on a 600+ return journey next month to Norwich area and will hopefully get an even better rate...will keep you posted.
(Will review the carand spec itself in the My Qashqai thread)
Over all I'm very pleased with the performance and mpg.Smile

anything around the 50mpg mark for 4WD is nothing to be sniffed at
Used to own 57-plate 2.0dCi Acenta 4WD in Flame Red

Did have a 1.6dCi Tekna CVT in Ink Blue on order in 2014 but got cancelled.....

I miss my QQ and may be back in a few years

I've never actually used the 4wd yet Unhappy Never had the need to , but nice to know it's there. The car is basically a 1.6 dci with 4wd option  ,hence good mpg. Thumbs Up

My 10th Feb 1.6 DCi stop start has done 1300 miles in 3 weeks. Average mixed driving consumption is 48 mpg, rising to about 52 mpg on long runs. Reasonably relaxed driving style. Quite pleasing. I understand that at around 3000 miles the ECU increases the available power once the run-in period has expired... not sure how this manifests itself aside from the obvious.

Engine is quieter than my previous 60 plate Mazda 6 Sport, but less refined. But no slouch either once the turbo spins up.

I find myself switching the stop/start off most journeys... !

A couple of funnies though... when setting off in 1st, the engine over-revs as you change gear, as if you have dipped the clutch while still accelerating. Doesn't seem to do it in other gears.

In top gear at around 1600-1700 rpm, any light acceleration causes the engine to jerk noticeably.

The cruise control hunts more than other cars I've had. As if the control is trying to maintain the speed too accurately - a bit like someone with a twitchy pedal foot.

Hi Len , glad you're enjoying the diesel unit as much as me.Big smile
MPG is around the same and if that snippet about ECU increase is correct this may rise a little. Thumbs Up
Not noticed the little issues with the "over-revving" or jerking although  I still have some difficulty engaging 1st when cold.
I've used the stop/start frequently (and I'm doing my bit to save the planet Exclamation) , but I often forget about it and tend to use clutch control rather than the handbrake so the S/S is not activated.
Still having fun driving............

My gear selection is OK from 1st to 4th, it is 5th and 6th that require a little force and concentration. Mentioned it to the dealer when I took the car back to "discuss" the fact that the bumpers are a different shade of white to the body panels... they reckon it should free up, but suggested I keep an eye on it. Which sounds like they expect the shift cables might need adjustment.

One other thing I noticed about this Renault engine is you can rev way beyond the red line! Did it once or twice when overtaking without realising I had hit about 5500 rpm, no limiter at that speed. Sounds like a petrol engine too above about 3500 rpm. Pleasing.

No real turbo lag on this engine either, by the way. Once you get to around 1200 rpm, it's in boost.

UPDATE - 2000+ Review.
Done well over 2000 miles now and the QQ is really loosening off a bit - meaning it feels "run in".
The mpg has suffered in the last few week as I've give it a little more welly than usual and opened her up,(of course keeping within the speed limits Wink ). I registered 47.2 mpg the week I decided to throw caution to the wind and drive her "properly" but that's still great mpg in anyones books.Clap
Great pulling from gears 4,5,6 now , don't know why they are different now but they are.

Back to steady and responsible in the last few days and reset the meter and currently reads 2/10th's up from my original quoted mpg at 54.6.
Must add that during the "mad moments" the QQ sticks to the road really well and feels solid.Thumbs Up
Roll on the next few '000's/

1840 miles so far for me (4 weeks and a bit). Not noticed any difference in anything yet... just collected a small windscreen chip and had to touch up a couple of small stone chips on the bonnet. Bloody cheaply resurfaced perennially gritty roads in Rutland are a disgrace.

Commute average atm about 49mpg, give or take.

5th and 6th are still awfully awkward.

have not noticed any reving or jerking but have noticed the difficulty engaging 1st gear while cold seems to be ok once the engine gets to operating temperature.on a run getting around 54-56mpg according to gauge, only have 970 miles on clock but very pleased so far

2500 miles now. Still feels much the same as it always has. Economy the same. Still jerks/judders on light acceleration sometimes. Gearchange still quite poor in 5th and 6th*. Panoramic roof trim has started rattling a little when fully open.

Should be interesting when I pass 3100 miles - does the ECU release "more performance" as stated in the handbook? Not that it is lacking... Smile

* I may try and adjust the cable (one is adjustable, the other isn't) under the gearstick gaiter. The blue joint has the adjustment, the other has none. The 3mm pin alignment tool fits OK though, so.... Confused

Fixed the sticky gearchange, all gears now easy to engage!

Simply adjusted as per manual. Took about 10 mins. No tools required apart from a 3mm pin or drill bit.

Not sure why the factory cannot do it right first time. (Applies to bonnets too!)

Happy now.

I've only done 400miles in mine now but here's a few things I've noticed:

1. Even in 6th it'll pull at motorway speeds even while going up hill. Excellent!
2. Can get anywhere from 45mpg to >60mpg depending on how I drive and where. I reckon I could hit the high 60's with this engine if I got a long motorway journey
2. If you let the revs drop low <1200rpm, there's no power at all. Can be a bit scary.
3. I'll second the jerk in top gear. It happens when going on and off the accelerator. It's quite noticeable.
4. Gears are a bit notchy. But I think they'll loosen up once I get a bit more driving done. I'm not going to attempt opening the car up Shocked
5. I've found it difficult to engage 1st sometimes. The clutch seems to require you to have your foot right down hard otherwise you can't engage 1st. I've got caught out 3 times with this.

Overall I'm really happy with the engine. It delivers great MPG coupled with very good performance and only £90 road tax! I'm comparing this to my old car which was a 1.8T petrol Audi A4. The performance on that was 0-60mph in 8.6s which was way quicker than what was required. This engine in the +2 delivers 0-60mph in 10.9s (I think). It feels slower than the Audi but it is more than acceptable. The fact that you have pulling power even in 6th is brilliant.

When I went for my test drive the dealer told me I was driving the 1.6dci. I was a bit dissapointed with the engine. When I got my car I realised there was no way I drove the 1.6dci, it was most likely a 1.5dci.

Some of the differences I noticed was the 1.6dci was much quicker. It's also a lot quieter, especially when moving away. The 1.5dci is grumbly whereas the 1.6dci is much quieter and sounds more like a modern diesel. I've not pushed the engine hard yet since it's so new but I drove the 1.5dci hard and the 1.6dci is a much nicer and more powerful engine especially for someone coming from a petrol engine.

You should deffo get a 1.6dci for you next QQ! LOL

When I test drove the 1.5 DCi back in October 11 it put me off the entire QQ option. It just felt like a Clio engine in a large body... the dealer had no 1.6 DCIs in.

However, I got a call from another dealer to say they had the 1.6DCi demonstrator in and the difference was truly unbelievable. Hence the order was placed. Saved me buying the Yeti I had as second choice.

Have well surpassed the "3100" mark with some noticable difference in performance. Mpg still great even with a heavy foot LOL.(about 54 mpg which is a daily combination of motorway and several stop/start journeys.)
Could get much more mpg if I drove more conservatively but I think that if you've got the torque and power then use it........obeying the rules of the road of course Wink.

I've done 2900 miles now, and have noticed 2 things. I suspect the 3100 mile note in the manual is gradual rather than sudden. Why? Well, I've noticed that since about 2500 miles, the car has become noticeably more lively AND my 49 mpg has now increased to 52 mpg on like for like journeys. Despite the fact I'm "enjoying" the extra oomph.

The engine also feels somewhat smoother...

Nice

So far I've not seen a single negative post regarding this engine and I'm looking forward to getting one myself.

Update from me after 20000 miles and 14 months of ownership (only I drive it.)

No real problems since the gearchange that I sorted as seen last year (above). Engine still shunts at 50 in 5th and shudders sometimes up hills at 1700 rpm - ish.

Had a recent puncture in the rear NS tyre that had to be changed - the culprit never found.

Had the annual service at ~17000 miles (but 1 year so done). No issues apart from a recall was carried out on the fuel filter connectors.

Had to have the fuel filler plate and some of the cavity inside resprayed as there was little paint in there... and bare primer/rust. This is a bit of a theme...

Just had a new windscreen fitted due to a star chip in the driver eyeline. NOTE: you MUST specify the need for an acoustic windscreen (Ear mark) AND auto light/rain sensor as there are several gel seals to replace. Repent if you don't!

Rear tyres are still 6 and 8mm (new one is 8mm!), fronts are just 2.5mm and will need changing soon... I guess about 22000 miles.

Average fuel consumption over the year (very varied travel including many high speed continental runs) is 50.3 mpg.

One thing I am quite disappointed by is the general standard of fit and finish. Panel and plastics alignment is quite poor in places, the bonnet is badly aligned (I have improved it somewhat) and the paint finish and coverage leaves a lot to be desired in places.

Two other "issues" - the leather-ish trim where the steering cowl meets the underside of the dash (the floppy bit that covers the innards) is merely glued on with what seems like a Pritt Stick. And a B'stard to get to. If you drop the steering wheel to clean the area, the trim unsticks itself. And after a few weeks, rusty tops on the seat runners (part of the seat rather than the car). see photo. That's the least rusty, and these are visible - had a few comments...

I had a notification on Connect a few weeks back that there was a new SATNAV map available - £140 + VAT.

EDIT 23/4/13: Forgot to add that it needed a litre of engine oil at 13000 miles - the level had reached the lower mark on the dipstick. Not bad for a diesel!

I ended up buying an up to date Map SD card from a Car Audio specialist for £45. Good deal although I may never know if there are any real differences. Unless I drive in to Estonia or something...
