Hi, I got a problem with my 2.0 dci. When I press the pedal about half way to full then the engine starts to eccelerate up to about 2000 rpm then it holds back to minimum torque and go slowly up to 3000 rpm and then starts to pull up again.

Any ideas about this? This is bad if you need quick power to over take someone. Press the pedal if over 2000 rpm and nothing happens for about 100 meters and then pulls like a rocket

The problem is getting worse now. It keeps on holding back and then starts puling again and holding in again. EGR has been cleaned and there are no fault codes. New fuel filter makes no difference. New turbo hose fitted too.
Any ideas?

I test drove a 1.6 that did this. pulled to 2k RPM, then stopped, and went on in 250rpm increments to 3k RPM.

When we got the car back to the garage the next time they started it the EML (Engine Management Light) came on. Not sure what the problem was, but I would expect you to have an EML coming on if there is a problem that the ECU has detected.

There is no light or any fault codes. Did the garage fix your problem? Do you know what it was?

It was only on a car that I was test driving so I had nothing more to do with it after that. The fact you don't have any EML or fault codes is perculiar though. Is likely to need a hands on diagnosis I think.

It seems to be the air-mass meter. I cleaned it and it is about 85% better. I think if I replace it that the problem will be solved

Definitely a fault. My 2L diesel pulls smoothly from 1100 rpm ish.

a thought occurs to me. more cars these days are drive-by-wire, and have electronic throttles, so the accelerator/throttle pedal is measured by electronically and then in turn the engine management unit open the air intake, changes the timing on the fuel injection etc.

is the Qashqai like this, or is it a mechanical throttle which the EMU then adjusts all the other things to control the engine speed?

if it's electronic, then maybe the throttle pedal sensor is damaged?

It is electronic and you got a point. The only thing that bothers me is that it does it when cruising on the highway and then giving gas it holds back. After that it runs normal. It only happens when you are cruising
