But reverting to the OP....

Given the labour rates at dealers these days more and more cars are written off as not economically repairable. I always take out three years GAP insurance when I buy a car and never pay more than a little over £100 for it.  This gives me the peace of mind that having spent £15K of my hard earned on a car I wouldn't be stuck with only a £6K payout if somebody smashed into me two years down the line. As it's such a small percentage of the original purchase price, not getting GAP insurance is plain daft.

Of course, you never know how good GAP insurance is until you actually make a claim on it.......

Agree.

I bought the one recommended by the dealership.

I'm sure it's not the cheapest but they said they had dealt with cheaper ones in the past that they had to tip upside down to get a settlement, which took forever.

You pays yer money..........................

NEVER (before asking your insurer) buy Gap insurance if you buy a car new until the car is one year old. If your insurer is giving you a fully comp policy for cars less bought new then GAP should be included.

Worth checking before buying.

Hi Guys,
If any of you guy are over 50, Saga car insurance is new for old for 2 years, whereas, as Pro7het says, any full comp  ins is new for old for 1 year anyway, to be considered if you qualify, not always cheapest but the cover is good, if this is what you want.

Good point, pro7het, but I don't buy new - I'm too bloody mean to take on that kind of depreciation!
