Just wondering if anyone has fitted a gas strut to the bonnet on their QQ to do away with the support pole?

Good idea. I have had cars with heavier bonnets which self support on gas struts as opposed to a ropey stick thing.

Even my 1998 saab convertible had bonnet struts.
Our 2011 mondeo titanium x sport had a sticky pole as per the qashqai.
Must be a cost saving.

Just found a link to a kit for the J10   2007-14 on ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Strut-Gas-Lift-Bonnet-Shock-Damper-Kit-For-Nissan-Qashqai-J10-Dualis-07-13-/301387731594

seem a bit cheap to me though.

It has been done  and some info on the other forum. I believe the parts were sourced from Russia.

I don't like the add,it lists the kit for a j11,but gives j10 build years.

Has anyone bought directly from Russia? Any problems? I'm very tempted...

I'd prefer a UK supplier really but can't find one.

I've just ordered from http://upory.ru - a couple of others have ordered from here and recommended him. Seems pretty switched on with international orders and very quick/clear with communications.

Fitted these yesterday. I think for most they would be a straight forward fit, but certainly on the 1.6dCi there were 2 modifications which had to be made.

1 - On the drivers side lower bracket, a notch needed to be cut out for clearance of the fuel filter protective housing.
2) - A notch needed to be cut out of the fuel filter protective housing to clear the strut.

Even with this notch cut into the protective housing, the strut does contact the fuel filter connecter. Its nothing major, just pushes down on it by 1 or 2 mm. I put my phone in there and video'd it to be sure.

Fitting was very easy. The instructions were in Russian but had low res pics which gave an idea of what to do, but to be honest, if you can't figure it out you shouldn't be anywhere near a car with a spanner!

A side note: The bonnet doesn't open as far as with the original bonnet stay, but opens more than enough for any job you'd need to do at home. And if you need it open any more you can always disconnect the gas struts and use the original stay.

I see that's completely different to the eBay version I posted the link for - which moves the struts further towards the sides of the car.

Well, that depends on the struts used... the one I installed opens the bonnet higher than the original bonnet stay...

Indeed they do, but I'm talking about the kit I installed. I'm not reviewing every strut out there.

You can still get these on eBay although they seem to come from China.
I've ordered mine from the Australian website as it's cheaper. Just under £50 including postage.

Hoping there's no duty to pay....
