Have to say there is a HUGE difference between used and new filter...Stern Smile didn't realise how dirty they could get.

Excellent guide mate and well done.ClapClap

Gonna pin this topic.

Well worth downloading as this is a great easy to follow guide.

Thanks for the tutorial, however... that opening mechanism gave me some trouble because it seems now to give very cold air on the right hand zone, no matter what temp setting i input... left zone is ok but right hand one is a big trouble...

when pulled out, that white wheel rotated back... kind of like a spring pulled it back. Could that be the cause?? Help! i'm freezing in the car! LOL

Hi,

Just used your guide to fix an issue I was having with the left side vents blowing cold air. Reseated the actuator and sorted - well happy :-)

Couldn't have got to it without the guide though, so a heartfelt thank-you!

I must be either (a) doing something wrong, (b) too scared to pull hard, or (c) useless....

I have tried this three times now and I have never succeeded in getting the darn glovebox out!

Well done Ian.

A nice how to guide.

How do you know if your cabin filter needs replacing or not?  Or did you just decide to check yours anyway?

I've just bought a 2009 QQ from a dealer but wouldn't know if the cabin filter has been changed or not. At the moment, I don't fancy taking it all apart just to find out.

Thanks for that....i would not imagine on a 3 year old car it has been changed.....

in the real world you will probably not notice any difference with a new one, but it will give you  cleaner particle free air in the cabin.....personally i would change it every year when i change the engine air filter, not sure what the 'official' change period is though...

i like to keep mine clean as i have kids, its a mental thing that they are getting less pollutants when in the car....

obviously smoke and really small things like that will still come through, but that's what the air re-circulation is for (hate driving through smoke and then smelling it in the cabin for ages after...)

I am going to attempt this at weekend, the guide looks great.

One question... the actuator bit that needs removing I would guess sits in a different position depending on what airflow settings you last had when turning ignition off.  Is there a recommended position to set this to first to make it any easier?

hi chris....not sure if it makes any difference, but mine was on the window+footwell setting....i would say as long as you but the cogs on the actuator back in the same position it should be ok...

On right hand drive it looks easier.
I have LHD car and I had a problem. There is very little space becouse accelerator pedal is on the way and you cant remove it, so you need to "play" with the pollen filter.
Well, the second time will go better.

Just downloaded the guide, very very good.
My son gets bad asthma in spring so being able to change the pollen filter is almost a life saver. I imagine a main dealer will charge úúú for this job.

I did this a couple of years ago, nice and easy.

I notice it's not demisting as fast as it did, so I guess it's time to change again.

Any current recommendations on where to get a new filter and which is best? Bought one off ebay last time which I assumed was a genuine Nissan one but it was some other brand.

EDIT: Found this one, looks genuine and half the price of the dealer price?

I changed my pollen filter today on a J10 facelift with dual heating, and being a LHD it was constricted to say the least. Accelerator pedal and heater actuator very much in the way. I found on a French Youtube tutorial, instructions for removing the actuator which made things possible. The key is to set the temperature to "LO" before undoing the two fixing screws. Took a load off my mind, as messing up the heater is the last thing I need! BTW, the filter was black and full of sand, dust and other undesirables.

Anyone done it on a J11?  It looks a lot easier (remove the trim near the clutch) and slide in/out.  Going to try one soon as mines 3 years old now and windows steaming a lot.

Let us know how you get on.   It looks easy once you get the trim off but I'm always paranoid removing trim covers in case I snap something.

Its relatively easy without breaking anything Chris. I did a 'dummy run' last night while I await the new filter arriving. The hardest part is twisting your body underneath the glovebox to access the filter housing, other than that its unlikely you'll break anything as things seem to come off easy enough.
I found a brand new genuine Nissan pollen filter for ú9.99 off Ebay incl delivery so there's no way I'm paying Nissan ú40 for the privilege to change it during its service.

I did it on my J10, here is the difference between new and old when I did...

Was it a one off ebay item, or do they have more as I wouldn't mind getting one for that price?

Managed to change it earlier, took about 10 mins. The hardest part was squeezing the new filter into the small letterbox opening it is house in. You have to squash it a little bit and once it pops through the hole it regains its shape and so job done. Think of posting an 8" envelope through a 6" letterbox.
