Hi George, my Qashqai is the same year and engine as yours but is manual 4wd and I'm getting about 29.7mpg around town.

Mine is manual and most (>95% of mileage) of my journeys are 200+ miles on motorways - without a/c and without speed control, which each cost around 5% in petrol.
The indicated mpg hovers around the 42 mpg mark but I'm pretty certain this is around 10% too optimistic.

So should I be worried that mine gives me about 23 mpg in town ?
I think this CVT transmission it痴 not very economic with all that engine braking !

Is engine warmed up or cold. 23mpg would be right for cold engine

Anything that requires energy has to get it from the fuel you use. Similarly if you turn off the l;ights consumption will improve.

If you don't have the AC on full time, I read somewhere that it creates the ideal conditions for that bacteria build up which gives that wet dog smell .

I kept mine on all the time.

It surprised me too, but no - just regular driving on a long motorway drive. Until you cross into Dorset - no motorways here thank you.

So if I知 not mistaken a 2.0 manual will take less petrol than a 2.0 cvt , corect ? I hope it doesn稚 go any lower than 23 mpg or I値l have to get the car inspected !

I was told in modern cars having the AC on does not affect mpg or fuel usage at all apart from when you are in neutral/idling.

It is best to leave it on all the time though, especially in winter, stops everything drying out and much more costly re-gassing than any drop in mpg would cost.

I've had my QQ for over 5 years from new and always kept a/c switched on.  It still chills as it did from day 1 with none of this 're-gas' nonsense.  Thumbs Up

If I have understood the info in the handbook and online, AC use in winter helps keep the moisture down and helps defogging. My experience too.

It doesn't bother me as any reduction is insignificant.  Anyone who worries over a 1-2 MPG gain/loss has serious mental issues. Wink

Right so we agree that AC on will not influence the MPG or very little . To go back to beginning do you guys believe that a 22-24 mpg in town with cold engine , short journeys usually in traffic would be normal ???

Yes George. My 2.0 may have had an average around mid 30s but a short, cold trip of early 20s was about right.
