As it had been mentioned new contis only get about 12k!

I cannot see such a comment on this thread anywhere. In fact, like myself Contis have returned 25, 30k or more so I would strongly suggest you rethink, re-read and certainly, reconsider!!!!!!!!!!
Contis all the way for me and not just for the distance covered but noise levels, kerb protection etc etc.
Proud new owner of Red Fusion QQ, 1,5 dCI Tekna Sport (110 CV) (Different spec. here on Tenerife!)with so many bells and whistles I may need a lot of help in finding answers to a lot of questions!!!!

When I bought mine it had 19000 miles in the clock, and its original continentals. At 21000 I swapped the fronts with rears, put new ones at back.
Now at 29000mi, the original rears are getting close to retirement, they're far from illegal but I don't wait till then to replace them. Also they're at least four and a half years old.

My QQ+2 was second hand, the service record suggests it was barely used by the last owner for the last year he owned it.

Edit 2.. Mine is a 2L diesel so I expect the extra torque and weight will wear our front tyres more quickly

On the other forum many having similar issues with the new
Model j11 and continental Eco connect 5 tyre. Seems although road handling is good but very soft compound making wear poor. I did have a safety check two months ago when getting other issue looked at and they reported normal wear...going to have to replace before winter and soon

I bought mine at 25K 3 years ago and replaced all 4 tyres with Contis.

18 months ago I swapped front and back to spread out the wear.

It's now done 58K and my fronts are 3mm and back 5mm.

So 33000 miles on still going strong...

Picked my J11 up new in March 08, on the Conti's I had 5 (yes five) punctures in the first 15k miles so I've certainly had my money out of the spacesaver wheel kit I bought! They lasted a good 25k (mainly m/way driving) when I changed all four for Kumho Ecsta Sports, the car is now showing 45k and I still have about 4mm of tread left all round and no punctures either! At the time Conti's were £210 each and the Kumho's were £125, will certainly be going back for more Kumho's when the time arises.
The Conti's are they're quite a soft compound and thus pick up all kinds of road debris, you could see all kinds of rubbish stuck to the tyres and even a noticable smell of rubber after a drive

I have used Contis[2s and 5s] for over 10 years and been very happy with grip and mileage. Have had a couple of sets on Bridgestones [supplied on new cars] and while grip and mileage was OK ,they do get very noisy when getting worn, to the extent that I swapped the first set while they were still on 4 mm of tread.

Thanks yes similar prices to kwik fit but prefer national-
Continental Premium Contact2 - £112
Conitnetal EcoContact5 - £107

Both rated performance B but 2's have E rating for efficiency is this much different?

From what I have read in the past, Continental Premium Contact 2's last much longer than the Continental EcoContact 5's. I think the 5's are made of a softer compound so wear down at a faster rate, probably why the 2's are slightly more expensive.

Have always used the 2's on my Qashqai and get 30,000 miles plus on them, highly recommended!

I also find the Conti's profile is wider than the alloy, thus preventing the alloy being scuffed when brushing the kerb.

But don't know if other makes have similar profiles.

I always used Michelin on my previous cars, so quite chuffed that they've finally produced a set for the QQ.

For a comparable price, they appear to be more efficient and quieter than the Contis so would be interesting to see what mileage they'd last.

Anyone know at what level the tread depth markers built into the Contis is set at?
My MOT is on Monday, and my front passenger side has probably 0.5mm to 1mm above the depth marker left. Would rather wait a couple of weeks till pay day before I get new ones if I can, but don't want to fail...

It seems we also need to consider the effect of tyres when they go beyond 3mm of tread remaining.
In a Rospa report about 10 years ago the following was stated

"From the graph of results, it can be seen that the stopping distances start to increase dramatically at tread depths of below 3mm.
At the legal minimum tread depth of 1.6mm, the stopping distance is increased by 36.8% on the hot rolled asphalt and 44.6% on the smooth concrete."

ref   :-- http://www.rospa.com/rospaweb/docs/advice-services/road-safety/vehicles/tyre-tread-depth.pdf

A number of country's[and some car manufacturers] actually have a legal limit of 3mm for tread, not allowing them down to 1.6mm.

We don't have to purchase the most expensive tyres [most major makers also produce a moderately priced brand of tyre, that perform perfectly adequately for most use on uk roads.] but we should not be driving around on tyres that are putting all road users at risk. A tyre depot has actually shown me tyres they had taken off cars, it was unbelievable they were being used, some having plenty of tread in parts but suffered from being out of alignment and/or incorrect pressures.

Just a simple matter of keeping the tyres at the correct pressures can have a major bearing on the mileage before they need changing, but I must admit I have varied from the door figures to get a better ride/grip on occasions.

I actually have the cars checked about once a year for 4 wheel alignment on a Hunter Rig [cost about £40 ] and this helps the get the most out of tyres. Very much needed with the small amount of actual tarmac we have between the potholes !!!!!

So while I do take tyres off at about 3mm I do all I can to get the most miles from them first.

The above also makes be think we should not be constructing concrete roads. Having been in the construction industry for all my working life it is only a case of the cheapest construction method at the time of the road being constructed.

The choice of brands for 18" wheels isn't great, I have changed to Avon's and staying in four wheel drive spreads the wear. Ten thousand miles so far and all look healthy with plenty of tread left. They are quiet and more than happy in the wet!

I have the michelins on the back and the conti's on the front cost about £112 from blackcircles.com. Definitely quieter than the contis so recommended.

by coincidence I needed new tyres a few months ago; this is the second pair of tyres I've bought for it ever (car registered 2011, bought late 2014). I bought it with 18,000mi on the clock, and the fronts were getting a little low, so I replaced them about 20,000 in early 2015 putting the new ones on the back and transferring the rears to the front.

Just recently I did the same, threw away the fronts, put the fresh ones on the back and the still fairly good rears on the front.

I ended up going with the original brand again, the prices had fallen slightly, so in real terms fallen by a good 10%, I think it was £120 per wheel all inclusive.

These Conti tyres have good grip but don't last so long, i.e. a 2L-TD QQ+2 eats a set of front tyres in probably under 25,000mi!

When I bought a couple of Contis recently [not for the QQ] I was not happy to see they now had 7mm of tread , previous new tyres had 8mm of tread,so you only have 4mm of usable tread instead of 5mm a 20% reduction.
