I have a tom tom with all the poi's can I not use them instead? Help a pensioner out please!

hiya, another question

Looks like I have to pay (?) to use the POI site mentioned above?

I have a  Tom Tom with loads of POI (incl cameras) already.

Is there a way to convert the TOMTOM poi's to CSV files and use on Connect?

me = technophobe!

I found the gps-data website a good tool, but when downloading the Traffic POI make sure you dont download the mobile speed camera and plug and play type. The data is well out of date and was going off non stop, I know some would say well its still warns you of a possible radar but it also makes you not bother looking at the screen when you should.

Biggest poi online in UK is pocketgpsworld.com can't remember what their registration fee is but once you join they have guides for how to upload etc & poi's for everything.

Unfortunately until nissan update the connect system, the warnings (take up entire screen) and lack of user icons, and speed camera info not being direction specific (so you get a warning when the camera is on the opposite side of the motorway as well as on your side), and it deleting old poi's while uploading new ones,...etc... is not anywhere near as good as good spec tomtom

one thing someone could help me with is i have speed cameras but when i approach one i get the pop up box and beep but it says you are approaching w.339.55/8ul97 or some such rubbish (which is probably its location name )can the files be renamed so it says you are approaching "a speed camera"which i would personally prefer ??????

if any one knows please be kind enough  to put a short "how to" on for me

Heres how it works

Standard POI, are loaded into the Nissan connect and you can look through them in list form and then select one and choose to navigate to it.

Warning POI, these do not show up on the map either, instead you get a window pop up on the screen with a short beep when within the warning proximity of the POI.  window can be dismissed by touching the screen or it times out within a few seconds.

Is there any way of getting this bleep louder or even a different tone as it is very quiet ?

That's a shame as it's really quiet and you can easily miss it if you have music on.

I used to have a Tarzan yell on my Tomtom.

Hiya!   Yes you can modify the rubish descriptions.  Simply open the CSV files in Excel.  You'll see the descriptions in the 3rd column (I think it's the 3rd).   Change the first description to what ever you want it to say.  Then, copy-n-paste all the way down the remainder of the column.

Easy peasy

Have a look at this topic/thread, just above "Bluetooth Connectivity"....

Unless something has drastically changed from this official announcement, it appears we CAN have icons and sounds for the POI's (petrol stations, grocery stores, etc.).  However, I've not been able to figure it out.  And the folks at the dealership are as dumb as rocks when it comes to providing support....

Geez, why is this so difficult to get any answers on this....  it's not rocket science!  Embarrassed

Cheers!
