does anyone know what the timing belt change interval is on a 1.5 dci?. will be going to an indy to get changed as nissan will cost a fortune...so is it worth getting the tensioners changed also?

I believe it is quite common to replace the tensioner when fitting a new timing belt. This will stop you having to replace the tensioner at a later dateBig smile

Ian_clyde

Look in your manual section 9 item 6 technical information, they list a 1.5, 1.6, and 2.0 litre diesels and two of them have timing chains so the renewal will nearly be non existant for those versions.

I believe its 60k miles for the 1.5dci.
Got mine replaced just before 100k kms,
Cost €550 = £470 but price also included front brake pads, oil & filter change.
Was done by local independent mechanic as car is out of 3 year warranty.
The Duffqai. Pearl Black 1.5 Dci SE. Door, boot & tailgate chrome and illuminated door entry guards!
4.8l/100km or 58mpg

I've got the same - 2007 1.5dci... Unfortunately out of all the Models this is the one WITH a Timing Belt, all the others are Chains.
Mines just turned 50K.
It was last services at 43k when we got it in May so I'll be looking to have mine done either around May time or on the next 12k Service.

60k of 5 years - whichever is sooner is the recommended!

Having been to the garage to have the faulty brake light sorted (2.5 hours and still had to back!! - Long story) I enquired about servicing and timing belt costs...

He says that my car is due a service in May (12 months from when we bought it) - £240.00 for an M2
It had 43 on the clock so I reckon it will have about 55 when we go in.

The timing belt however, i have been told is 5 years or 75k miles??
This being the case, car registered in July 07 means July 12 for my Belt! Nissan cost £325.00

HOWEVER - I wouldn't trust a thing they said after the Service I have just received! Angry

Thats what he said mastereagle, but like I said, after all this I wouldn't beleive a word of it!

I'm off to the Garage where we bought it - ok, its part of the Platinum group still, but their attitude when we purchased seem genuiley better.
Only reason I didn't go back there first of all is because its further away!

Anyway, as I daid, I'm back there on Monday so i will all costs clarified and report back!

Bad news for my Qashqai.... yesterday (Friday at 1500) at less than 33000 miles my belt seems to have snapped (or shredded). This is just my opinion. Was going along nicely on the A14 at about 60 in nearby lane with, thankfully no vehicles behind me and suddenly no engine power or drive and the slowing down. I put hazards on and took near side wheels over onto hard shoulder and freewheeled into lay-by. I was very lucky about my speed, road and location of failure. Called 2 numbers for the Nissan RAC assistance  which again, promptly told me that, '.... this number is no longer in service.'  your stranded with no valid number to call.
Anyway towed back to Kettering and left car there. Replacement courtesy car (Vauxhall Zafira) provided by Europcar by 1800 at home address.
I'll update when Nissan look at it next week and give information.

Everything could have been worse. Because you lose the steering too. So I had a straight road, space and time and the good luck to drift into a lay-by before I interfered with other traffic.
Missing QQ already.
RAC man and Nissan man (separately) talked about ' a water pump issue' that cause belt to 'slip'. But I'm not sure if they were talking about Timing (cam belt) or an Auxiliary drive belt.
The Zafira is better than nothing, I would not want one. I find, IMHO, a bit twitchy (unstable) at speed, don't like the handbrake, cigarette lighter placement (for powering phone, GPS, etc. etc.), this 1.8 version seems under geared (5), seat adjustment method and other personal things.

Does anybody have an 'exploded view' of the 1.5 (1461cc) Renault engine from the qashqai? I'm trying to see if anything else is driven by the cam belt instead of an auxiliary drive belt which usually drives, water pump, steering pump, AC compressor and alternator. I no longer have the car to look see and eliminate the water pump. I can picture the compressor and alternator on the aux drive belt.

If the included drawing is the K9K engine I would say that the second sprocketed pulley up from the bottom is the water pump.

What I'm thinking, on a short lived cam belt, is that possibly the pump bearing failed or housing broke or simply the belt failed. Not withstanding oil seal failure contaminating belt and causing early failure.
I'll have to wait and see after someone has actually taken it apart to assess.

I'll hopefully have the details after I collect the car.

Here's what my QQ engine problem was. The Cam Belt now looks like a Fan Belt. Engine boxed and off to Nissan for inspection/investigation. New engine done 14miles now.

glad you got sorted in the end mate , nice new engine , surprised they ddidnt just repair the old one ???, new engine costs thousands so must have been more cost effective to replace the parts ?

But potentially the following items might have to be replaced. Cylinder head, all the valves, gasket, camshaft, 4 pistons and ring sets including gudgeon pins, 4 connecting rods, big end bearings (potentially main bearings) cam belt, tensioner and back idler, water pump.
Anyway they want to see what has happened to the engine back at Nissan. Could be bearing failure of water pump, tensioner or back idler. Unlikely to be cam shaft or crank shaft unless assembly 'error'.

Basically, if your cam-drive goes the engine is nadsed. Rip off the ancillaries, replace the engine and treat yourself to the worlds biggest paperweight.

Unless your engine is a non-interference design. But there aren't many of those about these days, are there?

Cant think of any off hand, only had a belt go on one car & luckily  that was a 2.0 Sierra which had same engine as the Cortinas, Capris, Granadas etc. Tow home by RAC & about an hour later was good as new (already had a new belt I'd been meaning to fit but  hadnt got round to itLOL

Yeah, the old Ford Pinto? They were good engines in their day, reliable, reasonable quick and simple to fix. Not very economical, though I think people worried less about that in those days than they do today.

I'll add information if I get report from Nissan as to the initial problem. Hopefully off to get track re-aligned today as you see from the picture the front subframe / carrier was removed. I had only just done it the week before engine failure with a new set of Continental's fitted to front.
