Hi folks,
Long time no see. Hope everyone is ok. So, my 14 plate Tekna is now 1 year old. It went in for it's first service last week on 10800 miles and all was well except for the advisory that my front tyres are low. One front tyre is down to 2mm on the outside edge, the other is 3mm. The service guys agree it's excessive, they can't do anything for me but recommended i contact Nissan Customer Service to see what they say. I've been driving for 30 years now and this is the quickest i've seen car tyres go out. I'm shocked. I have to say that i would expect them to do at least 20,000 miles before needing replacement. I used to get 25,000 to 30,000 from my previous cars. I can see from "the other forum" that this seems to be fairly common. How about on here? How are you doing on your front tyres? I will be speaking to Nissan about this next week as i can't ow they can expect me to fork out for tyres every year. I'll try and keep this thread updated. All the best Mav |

When the tyres are only worn on the outside, that points to the wheel alignment being mis-adjusted. Adjusting the wheel alignment should cure that for the future...

I too had to replace my J11 year old QQ front tyres at the first service but had managed over 17k. Still poor compared to
my old J10 which lasted over 25k. |

Is this your first time with a diesel?
The higher torque at lower revs might have changed your driving style and worsened tyre wear? Otherwise as others said, check wheel alignment and regularly check tyre pressure |

Not my first Diesel (by a long way
![]() So Nissan have seen the pictures I sent them and the video highlighting the problem (from the dealer). They claim they have no knowledge of any issues with the QQ front tyres wearing prematurely. I've advised I will be taking the car into an independent specialist to have steering geometry wheel alignment checked. I will then forward the report to my case manager. If it highlights a fault, I will be looking to them to pay for the investigation and rectification work (if applicable). Edited by mavrik64 - 16 Jun 2015 at 8:19am |

I had my tyres checked again today as advised 3 months ago at the last service. I still have 4mm tread left on my original front tyres which have now done 41500 miles. The back ones have 6mm.Very happy.

Although I recently had to change all four Conti,s on my 2012 1.5 Tekna at 43k kilomtres the fronts were not down to the warning bars, in fact we reckoned they fronts were good for another 15k giving something like 60 k here in very hot weather, which of course, damages the rubber.
All in all very happy with the original Conti,s and replaced them with the same. |

I called in to see how much tyres would cost for my qashqai, from a very reputable dealer on Saturday and as the person I saw realised I was getting on a bit, asked me how many miles per year do I drive. On saying about 5,000 miles I was told it would be a waste of money buying Continentals or Michelin tyres as they would start to deteriorate before I had worn the tread down to the minimum allowed. Cracks around the edges appear after a few years it seems.
It was said that I should buy some tyres, can't remember the make, that would do the "job", be safe but would cost half the price of the more well known tyres. A saving of £60 on each tyre. Has anyone else come across this? By telling me this they would be loosing money so it seems it must be correct. |

Hi
They would only be losing money if their mark up on the 'other' tyres was less than on the Contis and Michelins. Also surprises me that tyre walls would deteriorate on major brands that quickly. However.......assuming they are being straight with you and as long as the 'other' tyres are reputable...........give them a whirl. |

As it turns out I don't need any new tyres for a good while yet as they still have sufficient tread on for at least 2 years, based on the low mileage I now do.
I bought my car 11 months ago with only 31,000 miles on the clock, and it being a 2008 model, it has had a new set of tyres on since it was new as they are different from back to front. As a guess I think the previous owner may have changed them at about 25,000 miles. The car was like new and it drives very well indeed, I love it and so does my wife. It's just occurred to me that either the front tyres or the rear tyres may be original and it has only had two new tyres. Does anyone know what make of tyres would have been fitted at the factory so I could check this out? |

The determination of wall tyre degradation is subjective as there is no set standard like tread depth.

I know the poster's car is out of warranty, but if we are in warranty, wonder if non OE tyres is an issue with warranty and insurance?

Is your Qashqai on 19 inch Continental contact 5, if it is then I think you have the highest mileage reported on 19 inch Continentals |

Well there's your answer. Contii 2s were good for 35k+ but Conti 5s are softer and will only do half that

I bought an automatic Tekna in September with 19 inch wheels and when ordering was told that Nissan had now switched to Dunlop's on the new models. When I collected it I saw straight away that it had Continentals fitted.
I then spotted an identical Qashqai parked next to mine with Dunlop's. When I pointed this out I was informed that all manual cars now had Dunlop fitted but automatics had Continentals. They didn't know why! Could anybody enlighten me? Or is this my punishment for getting lazy and not wanting to change gear! |

I have had 3 Qashqai the models being 2007, 2011 and 2015 and all had Continental tyres fitted. The last 2 models had 9000 miles on the clock when bought, being 12 months old. I noticed that the front tyres were wearing and both cars only lasted on the front for 15000 miles. My current Qashqai now has Chumho tyres on the front and they appear to be wearing well with a good ride especially safe when in torrential rain.

I'm about to replace mine all round again, I've had two full sets of Kumho Ecsta Sport (not sure on the spelling) after having Conti's on it from the factory and really rate the Kumho's, car's just ticked over to 80k miles (on a J11).
