Hi Members,

I had to take the wife to Salisbury Hospital this morning. I reset to zero and as I reach the Hospital it showed 46.7 mpgThumbs Up on my way back it dropped back to 40.0 mpgThumbs Down then as one reached Andover it went back up to 46.8 mpg. The QQ's seem to dogged by a very  poor computer setup i.e unless that white bar stays up on the 75 mark then its poor mpg. I now find if it stays behind the 50 mark it drops back!!!!Thumbs Down

my speed ranged between 50 / 60 mph
Magnetic red QQ Acenta1.5 dci has now gone to auction?. ,I have now picked up my Volvo V40 D2 Cross Country Lux.

I must say, I thinnk the guage on ours is fairly accurate... we seem to get within 1mpg of the guage when we actually work it out properly using one the apps!!
Our last 8 fill ups have been pretty spot on to it.

Yeah. I've worked out mine a couple of times and the gauge is pretty accurate - refreshingly so, actually. If you ever want to work out your MPG is pretty easy to do - even if you don't have an app to do it. But unless you're good at mental arithmetic you will need a calculator - the one available on most mobile phones will be perfect.

1/ Fill the car. Fill it to the first cut-off and don't "top off".

2/ drive the car - until the tank is 2/3rd empty (or whenever you fill up - the lower you get it the more accurate this will be but don't feel you need to risk stranding yourself!

3/ Fill the car up - noting how much fuel you get in. Fill the car to the first cut-off (don't "top off") - it's more accurate (but not essential) to use the same pump if you can.

Divide the number of litres by 4.55 to get the number of gallons.

Divide the number of miles by the number of gallons to get the MPG

EG 40 Litres / 4.55 = 8.79 Gallons

423 miles / 8.79 Gallons = 48.12 MPG

Simples.

Or in my case......

55.17 Litres / 4.55 = 12.12 Gallons
472 miles / 12.12 Gallons = 38.94 mpg

From a 1.5 regular Qashqai that seems....excessive.... IF you were just sludging through town maybe that would be right.

Are you sure she's warming up fully, and everything? Mine warms up to 90 degrees (according to my scan guage) which is about right, but takes quite a time to get there.

I think thats probably the main problem -

The OH has the car and her regular journeys consist of:

Mon - Fri - drives 2.5 miles (10 minutes) to school, then the same home at the end of the day.
Mon, Wed & Fri she also goes to the stables after school - 7 miles each way (20 minutes)
Saturday is two trips to the stables
Sunday is another trip to the stables.

Obviously theres a few other trips around town etc... but they're the regular runs.
Maybe she needs to take the kids to school to give it a bit more of a run.... that would be nearly 8 miles (30 minutes with traffic).

it seems that these are really short journeys and the engine isnt getting a chance to heat up properly for maximum efficiency...

I'd get your wife to chaffeur you on a nice long run every weekend. You might notice a difference then? When is your car next due a service?

I also get really pants MPg on really short journeys to the shops etc, just now doing lots of combined mileage I am averaging 40.6 on screen. 42 MPG per my calculations . That is a lot lower than advertised. Still, I may just be heavy footed?

I do try to nick the car at the weekend and give it a run.... but get nagged for wasting fuel....LOL

Service is due in 4 months too....

Just bought some Diesel Redex (only cos it was on offer) and just stuck some in this last tank to see if that helps.
I know there's a better one out there, and more expensive, but couldn't find the thread! Unhappy

I see a mpg challenge coming?

How about we all reset the computers before we head to Sunderland and see who gets the best mpg?

Or to be fairer, fill up when we get there and calculate the mpg!

Alot of honesty would be needed!!!...CF will no doubt Burn up there at 90 and then reset for the last 10 miles and Pootle along at 66, though may be noticeable in a Convoy.... ....maybe reset at the Last pickup point??

Good idea and think all the QQs will probably be DCis??

Another check is to see if your brakes are binding on.  After a short journey walk round all wheels and touch the brake discs.  They should all be of similar temperature.  If you find one which is very much hotter than others, then it means the caliper may not be releasing the pads correctly and causing reduced MPG.  Be careful though.........if you are naturally a heavy braker the discs can get very hot!

I've just done 1000 miles in mine ( I know 1000 miles in 2 months) I don't use it for work and it's normally very short journeys around town with the occassional trip out at the weekends.  display currently shows 39.2 MPG which i reckon is ok given the journeys i do, i'm looking foward to see the MPG on the trip to Sunderland in convoy and will drive economically back to see what the best i can get is.

Sorry that I didn't post earlier, personal problems. Anyway when I got back from Sunderland i took picture of clocks  showing 397.8 mile total from leaving on Sunday at about 1200 and my mileage dropped a little to 61.2 because I went a little faster on way home. My technique was to stress myself out by forcing myself to only do about 2000 RPM in top gear, which indicated 60MPH but in reality was about 56mph I travelled at the same speed as trucks (generally) using Cruise on flats slighty speeding up downhill and dropping to about 54 uphill. AC off and heated seats off. If hills are steep change down not to load engine but still around 2000rpm. Also my car is over 35kg lighter because I have removed rear rear seats and only fill up ½tank saving another kilogram per litre (approx). Also tyres at about 2.3bar.

That all sound a bit complicated to me, mine was cruise control all the way except for the slow traffic at 20 mph around the M25.  I had climate control on all the time, four in the car and a full boot.  I have done a few miles since getting home on Friday but still haven't used half a tank yet.

what RPM did you have (generally)? when on CC. Is yours the newer more efficient 1.5 engine too?

Mine will be the newer engine as it's only 4 mths old, not sure about the RPM think it was around 2000 or a little over most of the time.
