Mine seems to be running at45MPG on average. It drops when I hit town but a commute of 15 miles  each way at 50 MPH seems to give me the best results.

Can anybody say for certain if the cold weather actually affects the MPG?
I have seen mine drop slightly over the last couple of weeks and its very frustrating as I don't get very good MPG anyway (2.0l petrol 4wd) its currently at 30.7mpg

of course it will make a slight difference as engine takes longer to warm up but shouldnt be more than a few mpg difference and only when its really cold

I've said before that mine certainly goes down in the cold... (MPG!!!!)

It dropped drastically to a tad under 38 when it was really cold, and its now back up to 40 in this mild spell... 42/43 in the summer.... you know, when the suns out!

I have absolutely no doubt in a diesel , low temps cause MPG to plummet.

Ours in fairly consistent but as soon as the temp plummets to below zero, it goes from 40's to 30's!!!

You will definitely find the very very low weather temperatures will have a significant impact in MPG, especially in diesels as it will take a good bit longer to get to operating temperature..

What a bummer......

They're Nissan own "brand" of low emission vehicles. If I remember correctly cars that have co2 under 140 g/km and fulfill some other requirements are entitled to the "Pure Drive" badge.

You can read the full jargon here :

I think the weather is the issue too. In 3 days it has dropped from 48 to 44 and all my driving has been very early morning or mid evening in all this snow and plummeting temps.

My car manages about 33mpg, on mixed driving. Oddly enough I've stopped using Supermarket fuel and now it manages 36mpg. Which makes it actually cheaper to use branded fuel. I've experimented with Premium fuels, but they don't seem to make much difference.

The car runs nicer on "good" diesel, too.

My motor engineer (not the Nissan people) friend here on Tenerife recently told me about info. which he had received from engineers in England to the effect that you were looking at long term damage to diesel engines and poor returns for mpg.,s if you did not use "known names", ie Shell and to a lesser extent BP. Although centimos dearer (!) per ltr. I recently stopped every type of diesel other than Shell and I,v achieved a very noticable difference. Whereas before I was using 6.0 ltrs. per 100 kms. this is now 5.6 ltrs. per 100 km. which is effectively a difference in my favour of over 3 miles per gallon (converted for you!)

Here is the best I have managed over a 35 mile trip and driving carefully (note the outside temp was 24 C so this was in summer).
Mine is a 2010 Tekna 1.5 DCi PureDrive. I bought this at 19000 miles on the clock

Over the last 600 miles I have averaged 50mpg at my normal driving style during winter
I must mention I always keep the tyres slightly over inflated at 33 front and 35 back
I also use Shell fuel rather than tesco or asda. The latter normally give me a lower mileage and have lost my trust.

I've been doing very low miles for the last few months (mostly around town) and my mpg has slowly dropped to 35. After going on a long journey (high motorway speeds mainly) and resetting the meter it's sitting around 42 for round town driving (real fuel consumption seems to reflect this).
Seems that a good burn out has made it run an awful lot better! 42 seems ok round town for the 2l diesel AWD to me. Maybe some of the people achieving low mpg on the 1.5 need to give it a good clear out?
Just drive it like you stole it for a decent journey and it might save you money in the long run!

You mean hotwire it, and then do handbrake turns on the local council estate all evening before ditching the car and setting fire to it?

Don't see how that will help.

[<:o)]

Sorry. In a slightly odd mood this evening.

I think its a shame there is no actual instant mpg, the average is a little annoying. I have a golf tdi and that has both instant and average which you toggle between like you do with the miles.

I have to say that since I wrote my "ditty" I have been giving the engine a real good blow out once a week. I,ve always done this with petrol engines so I don,t see why not with stinky diesels!
