My Mk3 Ford Galaxy 2.0 ltr diesel  hated supermarket fuel. It would run rough and drop MPG and if I tried to accelerate too hard the engine management light would come on. So I would use BP which Ford recommended and that solved the problem.

Now I have a QQ N-TEC+ 1.6DCI. And tickled pink with it I am too. I just wondered if any seasoned 1.6 DCI users have found any problems with any particular supplier of diesel, or, if their car shows any preferences?

Your thoughts and experiences would be welcomed.Thumbs Up

My Qashqai certainly prefers BP Ultimate Diesel. Engine runs quieter, smoother and get a few more mpg per tank.

There has already been a discussion...

At least in Germany there's no difference in the Diesel - the whole lot comes out of the same refineries. Regardless of where I fill up, the car runs the same always - no change in mpg or anything else....

When I recall the discussion correctly there is some kind of agreement, that the fuel sold at supermarket stations in GB is of less quality...

as per duncho, it was an interesting discussion

my 2009 1.5dci only ever gets Shell, BP or Esso and seems extra smooth on their nitro/ultimate versions which i use once in a while

I have a 1.6dci and use supermarket fuel 95% of the fill ups and named garage for the other 5%, and never had a problem with any of them when driving solo or when towing the caravan.

I've recently switched to Shell Nitro + Diesel for my 1.6dCi. For the first year of ownership I managed at most 44mpg on my usual driving to work and general pottering around. Since filling with Nitro + I get a consistant 52mpg across the tank with the same journeys. On one particular journey from fill up to work and back home again I managed to get 62mpg!

I'm a lot happier with how smooth the engine runs on this fuel too.

The day after I bought the car I filled up in Plymouth with shell nitro and got 56 mpg for the journey home just north of London.

BP ultima doesnt do so well. filled up a couple of times at Tesco and mileage has increased again and the engine runs smoother. As it is cheaper I quite happy.
