i repeat my previous observation
sounds a night mare don,t think i will bother
with front sensors always happy with rear ones couldn,t do without them
.stick to my present solution for front warnings ;;its a pain but creep
up to the car in front when parking ,i always select a car with some
one s AT IN IT ;;if their head jolts u know its ok to go back using rear
sensors ;try to look innocent and glare at a pedestrian ;; ![]() |

You can still cancel them cos they are usually fitted by an outside sourced company when the car arrives at the dealer.

I have to say im abit shocked after reading all the stories about issues like thisone, and my own experience with my dealer so fare. How come I feel I get better service when contacting a dealer with a broken 200£ stereo than most seem to get from a dealer selling them a car worth about a years worth of salary? Overall it's seems the car industry has ALOT to learn about service and customers relationship. Cases like thisone is gonna cost them alot more than refunding the 350£ in question. Had I know what I know now, I cant honestly say I would have bought something different. Big part of that is the wait, but the feedback and service from the dealer has also been sadly lacking, and I really am accustomed to more upfront and personal service.

They are fitted by the dealer.
They showed me one they had just fitted saying"Well this one doesn't have the fault".
We sat in it and I showed them that it did. Of the four times I started the vehicle only once did the sensors work properly ie: I did not have to put it in reverse to switch them on in order to park forwards.

That's correct. I've already looked up the Trading Standards office.
The dealer and Nissan C S have been back to me today stating that the matter is being dealt with so I'll give things a little longer to see if it can be settled amicably.
PS: The new after-sales manager, Louise, is being very helpful; and I do like Laura on sales, so I probably will buy another Qq but not with the front sensors. Edited by allan40alt - 20 Apr 2010 at 8:27am |

Well according to Nissan that's how they are supposed to work....or not.
I sent this reply:
they can't be serious. What they are saying is that sometimes they will work and sometimes they won't but anyway let's not put anything in the operating instructions about waiting for the initial charging beep to stop or about pressing the over-ride button whilst you start the car.
They went on to say that you are supposed to turn the key to Acc position then wait for the beeping to stop (the charging cycle for the sensors) before continuing to start the car (I told them that; and about the alternative method of pressing the overide button down before turning the ignition - I should have kept quiet as they would still have been puzzling over it!).
The other point is that no-one knew in the dealers how to demonstrate this function, otherwise why would they try to correct it if it wasn't a fault.
Now I don't find that acceptable as they make no mention of it in the operating instructions for the front sensors.
These sensors are, without doubt, a waste of money at £350.

Well I've just had a call from Cosumer Advice who said that my best course of action is through the small claims court.
I'm fed-up with this whole matter now and I guess I will put up with keeping the button pressed whilst I start the car or turning the ignition to ACC them waiting for the beeps to stop before continuing to start the car.
This has left a very bad taste in my mouth regarding the way Nissan CS have replied and actually quoted my version of starting the car as the 'correct way' whilst all along never mentioning anything about a correct way!
People may upset me once but I never give them a second chance.

Can you just enquire what's so special about the 10th May?
Are they getting a modification for the sensors?
Did they say what the problem was?
If there is a modification then I think I should be entitled to have it done.
Thanks, Al.

Well I've just had a call from Nissan Customer Support and they stand by their comment that the sensors are working correctly.
I then asked why did they keep getting my dealer to alter the wiring and trying new control units if that is how they are supposed to work anyway.
Net result is that they will reimburse me for a tank of petrol and I agreed to keep my finger on the button when starting the engine.
PS: My dealer (West Way Nissan in Coventry) has been very helpful regarding this matter as they were only following the instructions from Nissan Technical. Robina at Customer Support was also very polite and could only pass on the info from Tech.
I shall now print a couple of small 'How to start the car with sensors' and place one copy in the cars handbook and the other in with the front sensor instructions.

I've decided to include a little note both in the car instruction manual and in the front sensor instruction booklet.
Special note regarding starting. This car is fitted with front parking sensors and to ensure that the small sensor over-ride button works every time it is required for forwards parking then the following method of starting should be performed. Turn the ignition switch to the first 'ACC' position. The front sensors will start beeping for approx 5 seconds. When they stop beeping continue to turn the ignition to start the engine. ALTERNATIVE METHOD: Push and hold down the small sensor over-ride button. Turn the ignition through to start the engine. Release the sensor button. Failure to adopt either of these methods may mean the front sensors will not activate when the button is pressed and it will be necessary to select reverse in order to activate them for a short period of time after re-selecting a forward gear.
Just a note for the next owner as I already know how to do it. |

Yes, that was the reason for my complaint!
You go into reverse to activate the front sensors in order not to clout anything in front.
These only cost £350 as well. Bargain, eh?
PS: You only need to do that if the sensor override button fails to work whilst going forwards.
